He had plenty of time to spend with nature, I mean, he renounced his wealth and traveled countryside preaching gospel after being released as a prisoner of war. It’s said that one time on a hike he saw a flock of birds and when they didn’t soar away he planned to go for preaching to them. That perspective has been shown in his hymn Song of Brother Sun, that in 1919 was turned into hymn we see day as All Creatures of Our God and King by William Draper.
