While educating youth of this country, I believe, teachers hold highest position. Nonetheless, whether in a suit, I have always dressed as a professional, dress pants, or a skirt. In school they’ve been my students, I have prior students who are in their mid 30s who are now my friends. I wonder if more would’ve been accomplished and standards should be higher for students if teachers were held to higher standards themselves? You should take this seriously. Leggings are not professional attire. I was a teacher, a principal and a professor. Therefore, relationships are easily built with students when wearing professional clothing. Remember, I have always been one of those wear a tie any day guys and will continue it till end of my time teaching.

Whenever leading hopefully to some sort of mediation, administrator must still have that right, teacher may get all offended and may complain to union or toadministrator’s superiors. Consequently, heels and ties will not be appropriate in those settings. I agree Dave. I am vice principal in a rural school in Canada, and I have received a bunch of compliments on how I dress. I do make a point of wearing fun socks however, and kids are particularly fond of my fried egg socks and checker board socks.

I can guarantee you AAAS does not mention anything to do with dress or tattoos when you join or go to conference so this notion that professional societies disallow tattoos is ridiculous. I have tattoos representing my research, like majority of my fellow scientists. Now regarding aforementioned fact… I am a scientist who returned to teach science at a public STEM academy. You see, we are talking about great, for appropriate time. Teachers are not taken seriously as a profession partly because of fact many dress inappropriately for their positions. If your students like to throw themselves on ground I hope you are able to bend down and pick them up dressed professionally without having to constantly fix your tucked in shirt.
